Testing mold will tell you if you have a mold issue in your house. Mold tests will also aid in helping you locate hidden mold, and they also help measure the quality of the air and what type of mold is infesting your home.

Professional Mold Testing
If you think you need a mold test, be sure to have a professional do the job. A professional's expertise in gaining and analyzing samples will always yield results that are extremely accurate.

Kinds of Mold Tests
The 3 main kinds of mold tests are:
  • Surface Testing
  • Air Testing
  • Bulk Testing

Surface Testing can be accomplished in several different ways, but the most common methods are through tape tests, bulk tests and swab tests.
  1. Tape Tests - This test is taken by pressing a piece of clear tape against the moldy area and then removed and sent to a laboratory to be analyzed.
  2. Bulk Tests -  This test involves actually removing a portion of the moldy area so it can be sent to a laboratory to be tested.
  3. Swab Tests -  This test requires that a cotton swab be rubbed over the mold area, and it is then sent to a laboratory for further analysis.

Air Testing analyzes the amount of mold spores in your air. Samples are taken from the air and then sent to a laboratory to be tested under a microscope. This type of testing will help you figure out if you have a mold issue even if you can't actually see or find the mold. If you decide to go with air testing, be sure to do it more than once as the amount of mold spores in your air can vary at different times of assessment.

Bulk Testing requires a piece of the moldy area be lifted and removed with the mold intact. The direct sample is in taken to a laboratory to be tested. This test is great and provides great results involving the presence or absence of a type of mold on a surface.
